THE QUICK ANSWER

For no-bag practice, decide whether you want audio cues during the round, a workout to follow, a timer, or feedback afterward. Check each feature separately: an app may support shadowboxing while reserving certain tracking features for additional hardware.

A practical review workflow from Fight AI. Our guides help you choose tools, organize practice, and evaluate feedback; they are not personalized technique instruction. How we write these guides.

Choose when the app should help

There are two different moments an app can support: while you are moving and after you stop. During practice, audio callouts or a timer can provide structure. After practice, a recording gives you something to review.

Trying to read a phone screen continuously is a different experience from listening to cues. Think through where the phone will sit and how you will interact with it. The right workflow should fit the space and practice you already have.

Compare four useful types of app

  • Audio callouts: Shadow Boxing App advertises spoken boxing cues and customizable workouts. Check its current feature list if you want prompts during a round.
  • Guided workouts: PunchLab describes workouts with and without a bag. Check the requirements of the specific tracking mode you want rather than assuming all metrics work with only a phone. PunchLab overview.
  • Round structure: Heavy Bag Pro advertises guided combinations and a timer, and its publisher describes shadowboxing use. Heavy Bag Pro overview.
  • Video review: Fight AI accepts footage for AI analysis. It is a candidate when your main question comes after the round, rather than when you need the next combination called out.

This is a publisher-researched shortlist, not a hands-on ranking. We publish Fight AI. The comparison pages explain these different workflows in more detail.

Check the setup before the subscription

Map out where you normally practice, where the phone can safely sit, and whether you can hear cues clearly. For recordings, check that your whole movement stays visible without putting the phone or its support in your way.

For guided sessions, review the available controls before starting: pause, pace, round length, and the ability to choose familiar material. These controls vary by product. Do not choose an unfamiliar movement simply because an app calls it out.

If filming is the intended workflow, record a short test before the session. Our camera checklist covers framing, visibility, and permissions.

Do not assume no-bag means full tracking

A guided workout can operate without a bag while a measurement feature still needs a sensor or a particular mounting setup. Separate the questions “can I follow the workout?” and “can this setup measure what I want?”

Similarly, recording a video and receiving an AI interpretation are different capabilities. A camera or mirror mode may help you capture practice without offering automated feedback. Read the description of the actual feature, not only the app category.

A no-bag shortlist you can make in two minutes

MY SHADOWBOXING SETUP

I want help: during / after practice
I need: audio cues / a session / a timer / video review
Equipment I own: ______
Feature requirements checked: ______
Current plan includes it: yes / not confirmed

If you already have coached practice to record, Fight AI can be a companion for reviewing it. If you need a session to follow, investigate the guided-workout options first. An app adds structure; it does not establish that you have learned a movement correctly.
